How to qualify an Indian feldspar supplier

Qualifying a new feldspar supplier requires a systematic process. The following steps ensure you are dealing with a reliable partner capable of consistent quality and supply.

First, verify mine ownership. Feldspar processors who own their mines have better control over raw material variability. Ask for mine lease documentation and a quarry map showing the working faces.

Second, inspect processing facilities. Visit the plant and assess: crushing and grinding equipment, classification systems, chemical laboratory capabilities (minimum: XRF for chemical analysis, Malvern or equivalent for particle size), and packing and dispatch infrastructure.

Third, test samples rigorously. Order 2–3 tonnes of sample material and run full chemical analysis, particle size distribution, and application trials in your own process. For ceramics, this means firing a trial batch at your production temperatures. For glass, this means a melting trial.

Fourth, check export experience. For export buyers, confirm the supplier's experience with: SGS or Bureau Veritas pre-shipment inspection, phytosanitary certification, container packing and lashing, and documentation (commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin).

Fifth, check financial stability and capacity. Confirm that the supplier has the capacity to meet your required volumes on a consistent basis, and that they have a track record of reliable supply to existing customers. Request references from current customers.

For export buyers, working with a supplier for an initial three-shipment trial period with monthly quality audits before committing to a long-term agreement is best practice.
